Fun Facts About The Masks

The overall series/story was inspired by Arrowverse (Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Gotham.

Originally, Cole and Dave were side characters (Tommy’s friends), but then in later drafts, they started to take on their own POVs and eventually became extremely important characters.

The main female characters each have specific hair colors (Alice, purple hair; Casey, sky blue hair; Jess, pink streaks in her brown hair; Bobby, red and orange hair), and originally, the reason for that was because, in early brainstorming, I had trouble imagining them all as individual people. Hence, the colors helped me better picture them. And it sort of just stuck.

Originally, the reason for Casey having two names (Casey Cavalier/Cece) was that I couldn’t choose between them. Cece was supposed to be a nickname, but then it became a double identity.

The idea for Linda's Diner (A place all the characters regularly go to eat) was inspired by Luke's Diner in Gilmore Girls. However, the description was inspired by a local diner in my hometown.

Casey’s last name, ‘Cavalier’, was inspired by the dog breed Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. A dog I dreamt of owning when I was a kid.

The inspiration for Cole was loosely taken from the character of Eric Mathews in Boy Meets World.

In early drafts of the series, Alice’s superhero identity was named Ghost, not Eidolon. I’m not sure how it changed, but at some point, Eidolon seemed like a better fit.

In early brainstorming, Bobby was called Black Hat (Because I couldn’t think of a name for her).

The inspiration for Casey Cavalier/Cece was loosely taken from Catwoman in Batman Returns

Tommy was originally just Casey’s love interest, but as the story grew, so did his importance.

Jessica Peace’s name was inspired by the fact that I thought it sounded like a comic book character.

Leo Scotts became a character in the very last rough draft of The Masks: Our Origins. Originally, a side character, he quickly became a vital piece of the story.

The name for Height City (the city where the characters live) was a fluke. I have no idea where it came from. Originally, it was a temporary name, but somehow, it stuck.

The Honeycombs, Burrows, and Nests (Parts of Height City) were also a fluke. One day, I wanted to create social classes within the city, and the idea sort of just happened.
